Chief Warrant Officer Four (CW4) (retired) Paul “Felix” Miller, III, 74, of Shelbyville passed away Saturday, 9 October 2021 at his residence.
Felix was born 10 June 1947 in Bedford, Indiana to Colonel (retired) Paul Felix Miller, Jr. and Joyce (Greene) Miller. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1965 and immediately enlisted in the United States Army on 6 July 1966. He graduated from Warrant Officer Flight School class 67-9 and was appointed as a Warrant Officer One on 30 June 1967. He was promoted to CW2 on 4 April 1970, to CW3 on 23 July 1976, and to CW4 on 19 August 1982.
CW4 Miller served in Vietnam 1968-69 during the following campaigns: Tet Counter offensive, Vietnam Counter – Offensive Phase IV, Offensive Phase V, and Offensive Phase VI.
He was awarded the following: the National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (4 Bronze Stars), Humanitarian Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross (with palm), and the Indiana Distinguished Service Cross. Felix also served three tours in Iraq as Customer Service Representative for Rolls Royce Engines on the OH-58D Kiowa scout helicopter. He also previously served as the Commander at the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also served as the Chef de gar at the 40 & 8. He was the founder of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association of Indiana.
Felix enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, spending time with friends, and especially with his family. He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Phillips) Miller; they were married on 2 June 1990. He is also survived by his sons: David M. Miller, Mark S. Miller; Brian P. Miller, Phillip D. Keith, Patrick D. Keith, daughter Rebecca Sullivan, son-law Cory Sullivan, daughter-in-law(s) Dee Miller, Tammy Miller, Christy Smiley, Misty Keith, Christine Pryor, 21 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and his brother Steve Miller. He was preceded in death by his mother Joyce and sister Debra Miller.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, 14 October 2021 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Lew Collier as the Officiate. The Indiana National Guard Military Committal Unit will conduct military rites. Burial will be at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery.
