Jay W. McColley, 76, of Morristown, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Hancock Regional Hospital, Greenfield.
He was born August 30, 1944 in Rush County, but lived most of his life in Shelby Co.
Jay graduated in 1962 from Waldron High School
He retired from Eli Lilly after 33 years of service. After retiring he read meters for Rush-Shelby Energy.
He loved collecting John Deere tractors. Jay had a love for watching sports, especially basketball and football with his granddaughter. He enjoyed vacationing in Pigeon Forge and Florida. His favorite times were spent with his family and loving wife, as well as attending sporting events for his grandchildren.
Jay was the son of Layton McColley and Edythe (York) McColley. He married Terri (Shepherdson) McColley on February 14, 2005, and she survives
Jay is also survived by his children, Eden Elizabeth Welty, Tonya Renee Crump, Carl Morris, Toni Lyn Butler, and JR Wells; 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, his sisters, Linda (Jim) Cord; Lou Ann (Greg) Blake, and Beth Thomas, several nieces and nephews, his sister-in-law, Teena (Kevin) McMichael; his brother-in-law, Tim (Debbie) Shepherdson; his mother-in-law, Shirley Shepherdson, special friend, Sandra Tucker, and his dogs, Charley and Harley.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Dick Hatton, his brother-in-law, Ronnie Thomas, and special friend, Bea Churchill.
The family sends a special thank you to the staff at Hancock Regional Hospital, as well as his nurse, Kam Vaiagae.
A private burial will be held at Blue Ridge Cemetery.
