Denny Joe Walker

Denny Joe Walker, 76, of Columbus, passed away on June 30, 2023 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana following a short illness. He was born on December 28, 1946 in Rushville to the late Jesse and Ella Mae (Lunsford) Walker. Denny attended schools in Rushville and grew up attending church at The Salvation Army. He spent most of his life as a cabinet maker, designing and building custom cabinets for kitchens, baths, bedrooms, and more. Denny enjoyed family time, home projects, tinkering in the garage, lawn work, cleaning his home and vehicles, and following sports, especially Nascar. Throughout his life, he had many dogs, including his last pals Rocky and GiGi. He will be remembered for his kind heart, sweet smile, and great laugh.

Denny married Cynthia (Butts) Davis on December 30, 2000; she preceded him in death on April 1, 2020. 

Denny is survived by his son, Denny (Melissa) Walker, Jr. of Alabama; his daughters, Brandy (Bob) Young of Morristown and Linda Graham of Columbus; his step-sons, Larry Welch of Shelbyville, Scott (Heather) Welch of Indianapolis, Jerald Fink of Lafayette; step-daughters, Sonja (Molly) Taylor of Iowa, Angel (Wayne) Miller of Franklin, Melissa (Dave) Hurtado of Carthage and Lori (Justin) Stephens of Carthage; his grandchildren, Kyle and Kenzi Walker; Brittany Jones, Dustin and Chelsea Young; Embry Graham; Cody Welch; Allen Benefiel, Ashlee Rogers, Lexie Benefiel, Meadow and Noah Roberts; Ariel, Erika, Rhiannon, Lucas, and Sabrina Taylor; Mike and Abithina Miller; Jade Hurtado; David and Peyton Stephens; his great-grandchildren, Tatum, Maddox, Asher, and Griffin Walker; Kaiden and Chloe Meredith, Kinzlee Young; Aubrey, Natalie, and Raylan Rogers, Lo’Renzo and Stefan Flemming, Toryn Holmes; Neva Miller; and one great-granddaughter due in November; brothers, Jesse Lowell (Nancy) Walker of Rushville and Jim (Barb) Walker of Rushville; sister, Janet (Charles) McCarty of Arizona; brother-in-law, Jack Reynolds of Rushville; sisters-in-law, Sharon Walker of Rushville and Romona Grider of Columbus. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, as well as many friends in the different towns he had lived in, including Rushville, Franklin, Carthage, Morristown, and Columbus.

Denny is preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Virgil and Judith Case; wife, Cynthia; son-in-law, Brian Graham; daughter-in-law, Pamela Welch; brothers, Charles and Donald Walker; sisters, Margaret Kaster, Norma Hoffman, and Vicky Walker.

Visitation will be Thursday July, 6, 2023 from 10 a.m. to noon at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Funeral services will follow at noon with Rev. Jose Rivera officiating.
