Cecil “Sam” Hammond, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, August 23, 2021 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
He was born October 5, 1937 in Shelbyville to Cecil S. Hammond, Sr., and Viola (Underwood) Hammond.
He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Iowa.
Sam was a 62 year member of United Association Local 440, where he served on the executive board also as President and Sergeant of Arms.
He was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, 40&8, and the VFW.
He was an avid golfer. Sam enjoyed spending time at the lake house at Brookville, fishing and boating. He was a true marksman at trap shooting.
Sam is survived by his sons, Michael (Robyn) Hammond, and Cecil Hammond III; his grandchildren, Robert Cox (companion, Ashley Lux), Alicia Cox (companion, Dan Wilson), and Sam Hammond, great-grandchildren, Von and Vincent Cox, and his brother, Dan Hammond.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister-in-law, Kay Hammond, and his brother, Patrick Hammond.
Private family services were held.
