Virginia A. Gaffney, 84, of Shelbyville died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at her residence. Born Sept. 24, 1926, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Ortie and Eva (Benefield) Moore. She married Alvin Gaffney on July 1, 1945, and he survives. Other survivors include son, Michael (wife, Rosie) Gaffney of Greenfield; daughter, Vicki (husband, Ralph) Lockridge of Shelbyville; brother, Richard Moore of Shelbyville; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Jenny Jo Gaffney; son, Ricky Joe Gaffney; two brothers; and three sisters. Mrs. Gaffney was a factory worker for KT Corp. for 20 years, retiring in 1988. She also was a cook for The Salvation Army, Mrs. Gaffney raised Dana Fox and James Jollif after the death of their mother. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Capt. Shannon Benner officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 136 E. Washington St., Shelbyville IN 46176.
