Thomas S. Gawne, 71, of Shelbyville, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 4, 1940, in Highland Park, Mich., to Thomas S. Gawne Sr. and Alma (Ruediseueli) Gawne. Survivors include son, Thomas (wife, Diane) A. Gawne Sr. of Pennsylvania; daughter, Teri Gawne-Vantor of Washington; sister, Judy Hobbs of New York; nephews, Matthew, Brian and Wil Hobbs; grandsons, Thomas A. Gawne Jr. and David Gawne; granddaughter, Nichole Gawne-Vantor; and great-grandchildren, Allysan and Audrey. He was preceded in death by his parents. Thomas worked in several professional positions within the insurance industry. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and was given the opportunity to throw out the first pitch and sit in the team's dugout during a game. He loved photography, billiards, beautiful women and baseball - not in that particular order, though. He was a friend of Bill W. Thomas' body will be an anatomical gift. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m., August 14, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St. A celebration of life service is at 7 p.m. with Ian Farnsley officiating.
