Russell “Rusty” D. Cooper, 63, of Shelbyville passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026, at IU Health Methodist Hospital.
He was born December 14, 1962, in Shelbyville to Carl E. Cooper and Carol L. (Erlewein) Cooper.
Rusty had worked at Pettit’s Auto Parts since he was 15 years old. He was a truck driver but knowledgeable in all aspects of that business from his years of experience. He was an avid outdoorsman. His passions were hunting and fishing. Rusty was also a sports fan. He enjoyed watching football and playing softball through the years.
Rusty married Kathy (Leclercq) Cooper on August 24, 1996. They treasured 29 loving years of marriage.
He is also survived by his son, Travis (wife, Amanda) Cooper; daughter, Fawntay (husband, William) Johnson; son, Kile (Christian) Cooper; daughter, Sheena Cooper (Nathan Valastek); daughter, Nicole (husband, Maylon) Frisbe; son, Cody (Corey) Craig; daughter, Sara Craig; 31 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Deborah Goodwin, and Joella Brinson; and brother, Terry Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Loyd Cooper; grandson, Joshua Nathan Turner; and granddaughter, Harmony Faith.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 4, 2026 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Andy Lee officiating.
Burial will be in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery.
