Roberta Lillian Lee

Roberta S. Lee, 82, of Shelbyville died Monday, May 12, 2008, at Major Hospital. Born Feb. 18, 1926, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Frank Sr. and Lillian Smith. She was married to U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Emil M. Lee, and he preceded her in death. Survivors include her son, Michael Christian Lee, and granddaughter, Maureen Elizabeth "Reene'" Lee. She also was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cyndi Ann Lee; sister, Anna Smith Byrd; and brother, Frank Smith Jr. Mrs. Lee had been a secretary for the Department of Defense from 1943 to 1983, serving with the Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Patton Jr., General W. Westmoreland and Alexander Haig, and received numerous presidential citations throughout her career. She later obtained her Realtor's license and owned and operated Prudential Realty in Indianapolis. She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1953 with a degree in business administration. Mrs. Lee was a lifelong Catholic and volunteer for many causes at St. Joseph parish in Germany. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, believed in the free enterprise system and sought to aid all those who were in need. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St. Graveside services will be on Monday in Maplegrove Family Cemetery in Kentucky.
