Orpha Louise Meek's Obituary
Orpha Louise Meek, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Heritage House Convalescent Center.
Born July 29, 1919, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Harry and Hetty (Orem) Tucker. She married Harry Meek on June 12, 1955, and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Donna (husband, Howard) Hudson Jr. of Shelbyville and Shelley Jenkins of Bloomington; stepdaughter, Rosalie Hildum of Bloomington; sister, Francis Leffler of North Carolina; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, a twin sister and a son, Val Meek.
Mrs. Meek was an elementary school teacher for Northwestern School Corp. for 15 years, retiring in 1985.
She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Butler University. She entered medical school at Indiana University, but due to uncontrollable circumstances, she was unable to complete her medical degree. For that reason, she has donated her body to the Anatomical Educational Program at the Indiana University Medical Center.
Mrs. Meek had been a 69-year member of First Baptist Church.
A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, 27 W. Broadway St.
