A Reflection of Life

Marisa Rene Banks

Born October 14, 1956 – Entered Eternal Rest December 1, 2025

Marisa Rene Banks Palmer, affectionately known as "Reese," was born on October 14, 1956, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Dorothy Conley Banks and Claude Huntley Banks. She was the youngest of four children and was dearly loved by her family. She was preceded in death by her sister Shirley Banks Richardson Southward and her brother Orlando Richard Banks. She leaves behind her beloved brother John Claude (Toni) Banks, who shared in her laughter, memories, and deep family bonds.

At the tender age of eight, Marisa gave her life to Christ and was baptized at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church. She found joy in serving through song, beginning in the youth choir and continuing in the young adult choir. Her voice lifted the hearts of many, and her faith was the quiet strength that guided her life.

Marisa was educated in the Indianapolis Public School system, attending Elementary School #20 and Emmerich Manual High School, where she graduated in 1975. A natural athlete and spirited leader, she proudly cheered on her school as a cheerleader, ran track, and played softball, leaving a mark of energy and enthusiasm that her classmates and friends fondly remember.

She married Edward Palmer in 1981, and from that union, three sons were born who became her life's greatest joy — Edward, Christopher, and Orlando Palmer. Through them, her legacy continues in her cherished grandchildren, each bringing light to her life and carrying on the love she so freely gave.

Once married, she made her home in Shelbyville, Indiana, where she resided for the remainder of her days.  Although the marriage ended, she found a loving life partner in Ben Oldham, with whom she shared twenty-six years of companionship, laughter, and unwavering support.

Marisa's love extended to her entire family. She leaves to cherish her memory, a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and nieces; and great-great-nephews and nieces. Each one held a special place in her heart, and she in theirs.

Marisa was known for her warmth, humor, and steadfast spirit. She loved deeply, laughed often, and gave generously. Her presence brought comfort, her smile brought joy, and her faith brought hope to all who knew her.

Though she has departed this earthly life, her light continues to shine through her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Marisa's story is one of love, faith, and family — a life well-lived and a soul well-loved.
