Lynn E Cox

November 3, 1934 — February 1, 2021

Lynn E. Cox, 86, passed away, Monday, February 1, 2021 at MHP Hospital in Shelbyville.

Lynn was born November 3, 1934 to John and Evelyn (Laufer) Cox.

He married Loretta (Aldridge) Cox on May 17, 1957.  Born to this marriage were 3 wonderful children, David (Beth) Cox; Karen (Matt) Reprogle; and Gary (Dianna) Cox.

Lynn served in the United States Air Force from February 1957 to August 1960.

He was involved with baseball at Knothole, which later became Shelby County Babe Ruth.  In 1975, he was named Knothole Baseball Coaches Mental Attitude Award winner and in 1979, Knotholes "B" League Coach of the Year Award.  He was on the committee in 1985 in bringing "Babe Ruth' baseball to Shelbyville and was also on a committee that started "World Series" in 1984 and 1985.

He was a member of West Street United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent for 30+ years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, Larry and infant daughter, Anna Marie.

He leaves behind his wife, 2 sons, 1 daughter, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and his siblings, Ronnie (Ina) Cox, Judy (David) Mohr, Dennis (Brenda) Cox, Janet Cox, and Richard (Karen) Cox.

He had been a farmer, printer, owned his own expedite truck, transported cars for local car dealers and mowed yards for many people.

Lynn never had a bad word to say about anyone.  He was a wonderful husband, (for 63 years plus 4 years of dating), father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He strived to encourage rather than condemn and instilled love in all.

HE WILL BE MISSED.

Services will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, February 8, 2021 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, Funeral services will immediately follow with Reverend Robert Keck officiating.  Military rites will be conducted by local veteran organizations.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

Funeral Directors, Greg Parks, Sheila Parks, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve Lynn's family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West St. United Methodist Church, or Shelby County Babe Ruth Baseball.
