LeRoy B. Martin, 81, of North Fort Meyers, Fla., former Shelbyville resident, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at Lee County Memorial Hospital, Fort Meyers, Fla. Born Aug. 22nd, 1931, in Marathon City, Wis., he was the son of Joseph and Susan Martin. He married Betty Jean (West) Martin, who preceded him in death. They were married for more than 51 years. He is survived by his wife, Katherine "Kay" Martin of North Fort Meyers, Fla.; two sons, LeRoy "Benjie" (wife, Karen) Martin II of Shelbyville and Andrew Joseph "A.J." (wife, Tonya) Martin of Indianapolis; three daughters, Sabrina Parker of Lewisburg, Tenn., Debra (husband, Leroy) Sturgeon of Pittsboro and Tamra (husband, Steve) McConnell of Greenfield; three sisters, Lillian "Lil" Johnson of St. Paul, Minn., Anita "Nitzie" (husband, LeRoy) Kraus of Marshfield, Wis., and Mary Alice "Sis" Brown of West Allis, Wis.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one son, Perry LeRoy Martin; four brothers, Harold "Cappy" Martin, Clarence Martin, Andrew "Pepper" Martin and Joseph "Sep" Martin; and two sisters, Dorothy Kocik and Alvira "Vi" Markham. LeRoy worked for General Electric and Wellman Thermal Systems for more than 33 years before starting his own business, Wire Equipment Sales, representing MAG. After retiring he moved to Cadiz, Ky., on Barkley Lake and later to North Fort Meyers, Fla. LeRoy also joined the Army out of high school and served three years as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. He later joined the Indiana Army National Guard where he retired a master sergeant with HHC, 38th Combat Aviation Brigade. A celebration of his life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Knights of Columbus Council 822, 413 E. South St. in Shelbyville.
