Lawrence Rick Ping

Lawrence "Rick" Ping, 51, of Shelbyville died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at Major Hospital. Born Aug. 6, 1959, in Somerset, Ky., he was the son of Lawrence A. and Marie (Prather) Ping. He married Julia Popplewell on July 11, 1985, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Jennifer Ping of Shelbyville; sisters, Ann Whitlow and Mary Prather, both of Shelbyville, Judy Hackworth of Kentucky, Teresa Lichau of South Carolina and Tammy Piper of Needham; brothers, James Prather, Danny Ping and Mike Ping, all of Shelbyville; and granddaughter, Alexia Kessler. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Ping had been employed with Shelby Construction for 18 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service and Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
