Kevin Garrett, 51, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born July 15, 1962, to James E. Garrett Sr. and Patricia (Smith) Garrett in Shelbyville. Survivors include his mother of Shelbyville; daughter, Taylor; brother, James E. (Wife Tonita Hamilton)Garrett Jr. of Shelbyville; nephew, James "Trey" Garrett; long time friend, Lorretta Slusser and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and nephew, Thomas Garrett. Mr. Garrett graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1980. He later attended Ivy Tech State College where he received certificates in electrical math and industrial electricity. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Second Baptist Church, 34 W. Hendricks St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with the Rev. Tony Lambert officiating.
