John R. Wheeler, 80, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Brown County Health and Living in Nashville. He was born Dec. 10, 1932, to John W. Wheeler and Elizabeth Ann (Clouse) Wheeler in Ben Davis, Ind. He married Wanda May (Roberts) Wheeler on Aug. 10, 1957, and she preceded him in death March 27, 1992. Survivors include daughters, Mary Betty (husband, Harold) Blocher of Shelbyville and Velecia "Lou" (husband, Albert) Skinner of Russellville, Ky.; sons, John C. Wheeler and Scott R. Wheeler, both of Shelbyville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Wheeler was preceded in death by his wife, six brothers and one sister. Mr. Wheeler was a private first class in the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He retired from GE/Wellman Thermal Systems. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed family vacations. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at the funeral home with the Rev. Andy Lee officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery in Westport. Graveside military rites will be conducted by local veterans' organizations. Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart H. Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Wheeler.
