John Wesley Purtlebaugh, 81, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at Franklin Meadows Nursing Home in Franklin.
He was born Feb. 5, 1933, to Charles Purtlebaugh and Laura (Rowlett) Purtlebaugh in Flat Rock. He married Eula (Bailey) Purtlebaugh and they shared their lives together for 49 years.
Survivors include his wife of Shelbyville; daughter Cathy Kowalski and husband, Tim, of Shelbyville; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mildred Sosbe, Ruth Gaines and Mary Come, all of Shelbyville, Betty Skidmore of North Carolina and Rebecca Heltsley of Texas; and four brothers, Glenn Purtlebaugh of Shelbyville, Avery Purtlebaugh and Dwight Purtlebaugh, both of Michigan, and Alvin Purtlebaugh of Missouri.
Mr. Purtlebaugh served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was employed at Indiana Cash Drawer until his retirement. After retirement, he started his landscaping and mowing business.
He was a member of the First Church of God in Shelbyville.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, at Flat Rock Cemetery in Flat Rock, with the Rev. Bryan Justice officiating.
Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Purtlebaugh.
