John William Higdon

John William Higdon, 86, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born July 24, 1926, to Guy Higdon and Millie (Sims) Higdon in Kentucky. He married Betty Joyce (Huzzie) Higdon on Nov. 17, 1977, and she survives. Survivors include his wife, sons, John C. Higdon and Bobby J. Higdon, both of Shelbyville; stepdaughter, Beverly Taylor of Shelbyville; stepson, Gary Bennett of Shelbyville; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Higdon was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters; and a son, James "Ronnie" Higdon. John worked at Great States Corp. in Shelbyville for 34 years and retired in 1986. After he retired, John worked for Bishopp's Appliances, where he took care of appliance removal. He also enjoyed working in his garage. Gardening was his favorite pastime. He loved to grow tomato plants and poinsettias. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Whispering Hope Memorial Gardens in Shelbyville. Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J.
