John W. Alley, Jr., 90, of Fairland, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Heritage House Memory Care in Shelbyville.

He was born in Cumberland, IN, to John W. Alley Sr. and Nellie (Vernon) Alley on November 5, 1929.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Martha (Bunch) Alley and sons Dan (Nina) Alley of Greenwood, USMC Ret. MSG Joseph (Brooke) Alley of Darwin, NT, Australia, and daughter Valerie (Rob) Prather of Fairland.

He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Rachel Huffman, Rebecca Downing, Megan Monnier, Christopher Alley, Emily Alley, Andrew Alley, Gabriel Alley, Loreena Alley and Virginia Alley and 7 great grandchildren: Avery, Aidan, Alec, Asa, Amelia, Theodore John, and Harrison. Two Sisters, Dolly Parrot and Alberta Springer of Indianapolis, also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 6 sisters.

Mr. Alley served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Greenfield, and was a former Sunday School Teacher and Deacon at Shelbyville Baptist Temple.

He was a Project Manager with Eli Lilly & Company and retired in 1994 after 25 years of service.

One of his favorite pastimes was bowling in local leagues. He enjoyed the outdoors and stayed active with bike riding, long walks, and tending to his yard. He loved singing and reading his Bible and creating many memories with his grandchildren.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 27th, 2020, at Hope's Point Church, 1703 S. Miller Ave., Shelbyville. Services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 28th, with visitation from 10 a.m. to time of service, at the church with Pastor Ed Mohr, Pastor Rick Cochran and Pastor Tommy Hensley all officiating.

Burial will be at Fairland Cemetery with military rites conducted by local veteran's organizations.

Funeral Directors, Greg, Sheila, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve John's family.
