Obituary

Jerry Wayne Hicks, a beloved figure known for his warmth, humor, and culinary talents, passed away peacefully in his home on May 7, 2026. Born on March 20, 1950, in Franklin, Indiana, to the late Charles Edgar and Barbara Ann (Winkler) Hicks. Jerry lived a full and vibrant life that touched many, leaving an indelible mark on his family and friends.

Jerry devoted several years of his life to his career as a chef, where he showcased his passion for cooking by creating and experimenting with his own recipes. His love of food was intertwined with his own unique personality—goofy and always ready to engage anyone willing to listen. Jerry owned the Circle J bar in Franklin for a time, a place cherished by locals where his friendly and talkative nature often lifted spirits and brought people together.

Jerry’s roots in Franklin remained strong throughout his life, but he also spent many years living in Florida, a place he grew to adore for its natural beauty and environment. He was a man who took pride in always looking his best, reflecting the respect he had for himself and those around him.

Jerry was a sports enthusiast with a particular passion for the Indianapolis Colts and Notre Dame, frequently sharing his excitement about the games. In quieter moments, he found comfort and entertainment in watching old westerns, game and crime shows.

A true family man, Jerry’s love for his family was immense, especially for his grandchildren, Ryan and Nichole, who brought great joy into his life. He is lovingly remembered by his son, Cary W. (Glenda). He was also the cherished brother of, Norma (Harold) Taylor, Linda (Jim) Bailey, and Wanda (Harry) Gentry; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom hold him dearly in their hearts.

Jerry's brothers, Charles and Billy, are remembered fondly, having preceded him in death.

Jerry Wayne Hicks was a man who brought light and laughter into every room, a dedicated chef, a proud father and papaw. He will be terribly missed by those that loved him the most.
