Janet Neville Coffey, 91-years-old, of Marietta, Indiana, passed away, Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Indiana Masonic Home.
Born Janet Anne Kramer on January 3, 1935 in Shelbyville, IN to Joseph Casper Kramer and Celeste Pearl (Shadday) Kramer, their 3rd child. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Raymond McDonald along with three more brothers and one sister. She graduated from Clarksburg High School (now North Decatur) in 1953, and married her high school sweetheart, William Keith Neville, in Greensburg, IN on June 13, 1953. They had 20 wonderful years together and were blessed with five children before he preceded her in death on October 30, 1973. On March 19, 1976, Janet married Chester Leroy Coffey who helped raise her youngest three children, and also a grandson, Jonathan Saunders, for ten years before Chester preceded her in death on September 17, 1993.
She was a past member of the Bengal Christian Church and the Marietta Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She assisted four of her young children with delivering the Shelbyville News as well as the Indianapolis News newspapers throughout Marietta, IN, and the Neville children hold the record for the longest time delivering newspapers, from 1964 to 1990 - 26 years. She also worked at Western Supermarket from 1989 through 1992 as a cashier, service center manager, and also as a trainer for new cashiers.
She always enjoyed camping at Ceraland and also Brown County State Park, where she enjoyed riding her moped throughout the park. She also enjoyed attending shows at the Little Nashville Opry, going to truck pulls, yard sales, euchre parties, and working at the Marietta Volunteer Fire Department's annual fish fry.
Janet's favorite singers were Daniel O'Donnell and Mary Duff, Red Sovine, Loretta Lynn, and the Statler Brothers. She also enjoyed watching TV, especially judge shows.
Besides raising 5 children of her own, she and Mr. Neville took in two foster children - a 3-year-old girl for 6 months, and later a 16-year-old girl for 16 months. She and Mr. Coffey took in her grandson for ten years while his parents served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include: Son, Bill Neville (wife Trish) of Edinburgh, IN, daughters Audrey Carol Caffee (late husband Myron) of Shelbyville, IN, and Teresa Diane Hendershott of Greensburg, IN, her son-in-law, Jeffrey Saunders (wife Sue) of Okeechobee, FL, one brother, Robert H. McDonald (wife Cathy) of North Vernon, IN, one sister, Carolyn Sue Berkemeier (husband Richard) of Greensburg, IN, and sister-in-law Pauline McDonald of Greensburg, IN. Additionally she is survived by 5 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, William Neville and Chester Coffey, her father, Joseph Kramer, her mother, Celeste McDonald Scheidler, two step-fathers, Raymond McDonald and Richard Scheidler, a step-mother, Elizabeth Kramer, sister Leona Marie (Kramer) Bennett, brothers Richard Joseph Kramer, James Eugene McDonald, and Harvey E. McDonald, and her son, Darrell Wayne Neville, daughter Sharon Lynn Boggess, and son-in-law Myron Caffee. She was also preceded in death by her beloved dogs Penny, Cocoa, and Smiley.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
A Graveside will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Miller Cemetery.
