Herman Odell

Herman Odell Spivey, 82, of Fairland, passed away Monday, May 11, 2026, at Hancock Regional Hospital.
He was born September 4, 1943, in Moss, TN to Herman Spivey and Vella (Etheridge) Spivey.
Herman spent his first 17 years in Celina Tennessee and graduated from Celina High School with the Class of 1960. After graduation he moved to the Fairland area where he met his wife and began to start his family. He was a dedicated employee with General Motors, retiring in 2000, with 30 years and 6 minutes of service. He specialized as a machinist with the company while there. Herman had a passion for cars and working on them, especially doing auto body work. He was also an avid NASCAR enthusiast. He enjoyed being outdoors riding his ATV through the trails and even enjoyed being out on his scooter. A couple of his favorite past times were drinking with his buddies at the barn and spending quality time with his family at the family gatherings.
He married Carol (Wainscott) Spivey on August 14, 1964, and she survives. They shared 61 loving years of marriage together.
He is also survived by, his daughter, Kim (husband, Bryan) Rice; grandchildren, Dylan (Laura) Spivey, Madison (husband, Derek) Way and Josh Spivey; great-grandson, Ryder Spivey and expecting another great-grandson, Zane Way in August; daughter-in-law, Jenny Spivey and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Greg Spivey.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
Graveside Service will be Friday, May 15, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Fairland Cemetery, 10053 N. 850 W., Fairland, IN 46126 with Pastor Max Southern officiating.
The family would like to invite the guests to show up in casual wear and come as you are.
