Glen R. Poehner

Glenn R. Poehner, 56, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, in an automobile accident. He was born April 6, 1957, to Robert W. Poehner and Janet Krekeler in Cincinnati, Ohio. He married Sue E. Sullenger on April 16, 1983, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 2010. Survivors include his mother, Janet Poehner of Shelbyville; daughter, Renee Smith of Shelbyville; son, Tim (wife, Jessi) Kamlieter of Auburn; sister, Tracy (husband, Jim) Kamlieter of Shelbyville; brothers, Gregg Poehner of Shelbyville and David Poehner of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Braydon and Brooklyn Smith and Kegan and Grace Kamlieter; several nieces and nephews; and man's best friend, his dog, Ace. He was preceded in death by his father and his wife. Mr. Poehner graduated from St. Joseph College with a degree in history. He was a member of the wrestling team there. He went on to receive a Master of Business Administration, with honors. He was a true historian. He was employed by Sallie Mae. He followed all sports year-round, favoring Indiana University, Cincinnati teams and the Indianapolis Colts. He supported his children and was always there for them when they needed him. His grandchildren were his special gift who filled his heart with joy. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4218 E. Michigan St. with Father Aaron Pfaff officiating. Burial will be at Whispering Hope Memorial Gardens in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity. Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks and Sheila J. Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Poehner.
