Gerry A. Vorhies, 84, of Fairland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19th, 2026. He was born October 23, 1941, in Uno, Kentucky, to Elmer and Lottie (Asbury) Vorhies. Gerry briefly served in the United States National Guard as a mechanic. He was employed at the Kroger Meat Plant as a member of the maintenance team before retiring in 1996.

Gerry was mechanically inclined when it came to repairs. His activities around the home included gardening, and he was always ready to play a round of horseshoes. No matter what the tasks of the day included, he always made time for NASCAR races. You never had to ask him twice if he wanted to go to the Speedrome races in Indy, as he was always ready to go. Just remember one thing about Gerry: his children and grandchildren brought him the greatest joy.

He married Becky (Pence) Vorhies on January 30th, 1964, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Gerry is survived by his sons, Christopher (wife, Dana) and Alan (wife,Carey); granddaughters, Courtney Williams, Brooke Vorhies, and Lexie Vorhies; six great-grandchildren; brother, Don Vorhies; and two sisters, Linda Tate and Vicki Lynch. Gerry was preceded in death by his brother, Buddy Vorhies.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, with Dr. Robb Barlow officiating.
