Obituary

Gerald L. “Gary” Moore, 73, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2026, at his residence.

He was born July 4, 1953, in Indianapolis, the son of Samuel and Dorothy (Coates) Moore. Gary was raised by John and Ella Mae Moore.

Gary graduated from Lawrence High School with the Class of 1973. After high school, he joined the United States Army and honorably served his country. He was employed by Raytheon for many years, ultimately becoming a warehouse manager. Gary was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed woodworking, jewelry making and embroidering. He also enjoyed the outdoors and spending time fishing and riding his motorcycle. Gary was an avid bowler and enjoyed watching his favorite shows, such as, Hogans Heros, Gilligan’s Island and Mash.

Gary married Mary “Chris” (Lyons) Moore on September 30, 1977, and she preceded him in death on February 14, 2007. He married Angela (Patton) Moore on February 28, 2009, and she survives.

Gary is also survived by his daughters, Melissa “Missy” Moore, and Melinda “Mindy” (husband, Richard) Moore-Parkhurst, step-son, Nathan (wife, Rita) Trenum, step-daughters, Jennifer Allen and Christina (husband, Brian) Smock, grandchildren, Aleah, Maya, Gabriel, Mara, Maddie, Addy, Landon, Grayson, Piper, Aria, and Bennett, brother, Sam “Butch” (wife, Cheryl) Moore, half-sister, Donna Moore, and his half-brother, David Moore.

He was preceded in death by his biological parents and his parents that raised him, his first wife, his brother, Donnie Moore, grandchildren, Haylé and Aubrey, and his beloved dog, Baxter.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 21, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, followed by a brief prayer service at 11 a.m. conducted by Pastor Max Southern.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 21, 2026, at Noon at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4218 E. Michigan Road, Shelbyville, with Father Mike Keucher officiating.

Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by our local veteran organizations.

Funeral Directors, Greg Parks, Sheila Parks, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve Gary’s family.

Memorial contributions may be given in honor of Gary to the Shelbyville/Shelby County Animal Shelter, 705 Hale Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
