George C. Lux

November 13, 1932 — April 7, 2011

George C. Lux, 78, of Shelbyville died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at his resident. Born Nov. 13, 1932, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Omer J. Lux and Sarilda (Sanders) Evans. He married Sondra "Sunny" Jones on Feb. 14, 1982, and she survives. Other survivors include daughter, Lesa (Peter) Johnson of Indianapolis; sons, Larry (Susan) E. Lux and Brad Lux, both of Shelbyville; stepmother, Helen Lux; stepsons, Brent (Jill) Montgomery and Brian (Dana) Montgomery, both of Shelbyville, and Jason (Alishia) Meal of Rushville; grandchildren, Emily Lux and Andrew Lux; brothers, Jerry Lux, Max Lux, Mark Lux, Tommy Lux, Ralph Lux, Greg Lux, Nick Lux and Frank Lux, all of Shelby County; sisters, Linda Stewart, Jannette Alexander and Beth Ann Garrett, all of Shelby County; step-grandchildren, Luke Runnebohm, Jake Runnebohm, Megan West, Cody Montgomery, Noah Montgomery, Madelyn Montgomery, Ben Montgomery, Treyton Meal, Jaydon Meal, Rae-Leen Meal, Brandon Jones, Logan Jones, Reed Johnson and Lisa Johnson; step-great-grandchildren, Grace Montgomery, Brody Runnebohm, Carter Montgomery, Samuel Kinnett and Jacob Kinnett; and a good friend, Joe Baird. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tony Lux; and a step-grandson, Josh Montgomery. Mr. Lux was a real estate agent and owned and operated Lux Realty. He also owned Country Lad and Mr. Softee ice cream trucks. He was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Shelby County Board of Realtors, Board of Directors of Saline County Bank in Illinois, Columbia Club and American Legion and was a founding member of Mainstreet Shelbyville. George enjoyed NASCAR, fishing, collecting music boxes and Royal Doulton Toby mugs and traveling. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St., with the rosary recited at 1:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 4218 E. Michigan Road, with the Rev. Paul Landwerlen officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Catholic Church or Sanctuary of Shelbyville in care of the funeral home. An online guest book may be signed at www.murphyparks.com .
