George David Hardin

George D. Hardin, 78, of Shelbyville passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Major Hospital. Born Dec. 11, 1932, in Winslow, he was the son of Albin and Eunice (Stephens) Hardin. He married Sylvia Fox on July 30, 1960, and she survives. Other survivors include daughter, Susan Smith of Shelbyville; son, Timothy David Hardin of Snellville, Ga.; grandchildren, Heather Smith, Cale Smith, Hannah Hardin and Wesley Ferguson; and brother, Robert Hardin of Otwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles Hardin, James Hardin and Paul Hardin; and a sister, Virginia Meadors. Mr. Hardin was an elementary schoolteacher who had taught at Little Marion and Coulston elementary schools, retiring in 1991 after 27 years of teaching. He was a lifetime member of the Greenfield First Church of God. George's grandchildren were his pride and joy. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service and Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor Chris Braschler officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
