Obituary

Gene Albert Taylor, 98, of Fairland, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at his residence.

He was born July 29, 1927, in La Porte, IN to John Albert Taylor and Lydia (Dahl) Berg.

Gene graduated from La Porte High School with the Class of 1944. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines at age 17 and began his service to his country. After the Japanese surrendered and upon him returning home, he was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably for 2 years, working with topographical engineers. After his time in the military, Gene went onto further his education at the Chicago Art Institute and then onto Indiana University for 3 years. He worked at KCL for over 25 years as a manager in the Graphic Arts Department. Gene was a member of Hopes Point Baptist Church and formerly, Shelbyville Baptist Temple. He was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and cherished the time spent studying the Bible and growing his faith. He poured countless hours into his ministry called Dusk to Dusk. His graphic design background helped him create and design his own website for the ministry. Outside of his passion for Jesus Christ and following his teaching, Gene was also an avid Indiana University fan. He was skilled in woodworking and was able to remodel their home and even add additions to it. Family was immensely important to Gene, and he cherished the times spent together and memories made throughout the years.

He married Ruth Ellen (Bunch) Taylor on October 3, 1953, and she survives. They shared 72 loving years of marriage together.

He is also survived by his son, Greg (wife, Debbie) Taylor of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughters, Becky (husband, Del) Sipes of Waldron, IN. and Jill (husband, Rick) Cochran of Pendleton, IN; grandchildren, Christina (husband, Bill) Hardwick, Matthew (wife, Amanda) Taylor, Nathan (wife, Anita) Sipes, Aaron (wife, Dana) Sipes, Adam (wife, Tracy) Sipes, Zach (wife, Lauren) Sipes, Melissa (husband, Matt) Vehorn, Jared (wife, Emily) Cochran and Stephanie (husband, Aaron) Eberhart; great-grandchildren, Will, Abby, George, David, Jonathan, Luke, Elise, Clair, Jonah, Isaac, Daniel, Ethan, Matthew, Michael, Jacob, Eli, Micah, Isiah, Ava (husband, Brice), Kate, Asher, Hudson, Eleanor and Ezra.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Esther, Faye, Dana, Carol and Joyce.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 10 a.m. to Noon at Hopes Point Baptist Church, 1703 S. Miller Ave., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
