Edward J. Cord

Edward L. "Jiggs" Cord, 88, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Heritage House Convalescent Center in Shelbyville.

He was born January 20, 1925, to Leo Cord and Emma (Wisker) Cord in Shelby County.He married Loretta F. (Cherry) Cord on November 4, 1945, and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2001.

Survivors include: daughter, Dee Ann Stader, of Shelbyville; son, Robert J. (Belinda) Cord, of Flat Rock; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Omer Cord, of Shelbyville; and a sister, Mary Alice Andrews, of Shelbyville.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was self-employed in construction, serving as owner and operator of Shelby Construction for 31 years. He served as a consulate for the Shelby County Commissioners, Shelby Central School Board, Shelby Eastern School Board, Northwestern School Board and Major Hospital Board of Directors. He served on the SCUFFY Board of Directors.

Mr. Cord was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #822 and the American Legion Post #70.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 5, 2013, from 9 -11 a.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service and Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.

Services will be Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service and Crematory with the Rev. Paul Landwerlen officiating. Burial will take November 5, 2013, at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Cemetary in Shelbyville. Graveside military rites will be conducted by local veterans.

Memorials will be given to SCUFFY or Hospice of Central Indiana in care of Murphy-Parks Funeral Service.
