David Gaines Balzen, 82 of Manilla, IN passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was born June 16, 1944, in Fullerton, CA, the son of Adolf Henry Balzen and Mary Louise (Lockwood) Balzen.

David graduated from East Memphis High School in Tennessee. He went on to further his education at Memphis State University. He worked in construction most of his life as an engineer and construction manager. David was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post #70, and a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying his time fishing, hunting, camping, and boating. David was also a big fan of Skyline Chili. His most cherished memories were made while spending time with his family and loved ones.

David is survived by his children, David G. Balzen, Shelly Little, Tracy Lynn White, Nikki Prunick, David E. Balzen, Eric Balzen, and Christopher Balzen; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his partner, Linda Peterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carol Andrea Balzen.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2026, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
