Curtis A. Drake Jr., 86, of Shelbyville died Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Heritage Healthcare. Born Sept. 9, 1924, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Curtis A. Drake Sr. and Goldie Drake. He married Leona Clemons, and she survives. Other survivors include sons, Rick Drake of Flat Rock, Steven Drake of Indianapolis and Phil Drake of Milroy; stepsons, Roger Higdon of Fairland and James Higdon of Flat Rock; stepdaughter, Rita Hutcherson of Shelbyville; sister, Vernie Brewer of Indianapolis; brother, Ross Drake of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Mr. Drake was employed at Conrail for 30 years. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service and Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor David Gates officiating. Burial will be in Flat Rock Cemetery in Flat Rock.
