Charles E Vandiver

Charles E. Vandiver, 90, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Miller's Merry Manor in Hope. Born Nov. 3, 1917, in Shelby County, he was the son of William Garrett and Margaret Jane (Chamblin) Vandiver. Survivors include his daughter, Donna Eastham of Indianpaolis; and brother, William (wife,Sonja) Vandiver of Shelbyville. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lucille. Mr. Vandiver lived in Shelby County most of his life. He worked for New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail, holding the position of Indiana division dispatcher for 30 years, retiring in 1977. Mr. Vandiver was a World War II veteran, serving with the National Guard and U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Corporal. He was a past member of Masonic Lodge No. 28 and Morristown American Legion. Mr. Vandiver enjoyed going to gun shows and trade shows. No public visitation or services are planned. Arrangements have been entrusted to Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.
