My heart goes out to you all as you say goodbye. I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts.

Gene had a beautiful soul, always full of song and smiles. With a twinkle in his eye, he seemed to always have a bounce in his step whenever I saw him and never had anything bad to say. Every time he came in the bank and talked to me, he always asked about my strawberry pies. I even made one special for him because of his sugar.

Rest in peace Gene, you will be missed but will never be forgotten.

I only knew Mr.Byrd for a short time of 2 yrs,but those years where good years! I remember alot of days watching tv with him, he loved shootem up movies,(gunsmoke, the rifleman, & bonanza). He was a hard worker never complained about any thing. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back if it would help you. He leaves the world a lil darker & colder now that he is gone, but HEAVEN IS A BETTER PLACE NOW THAT GOD HAS CALLED Mr. Byrd HOME!!! My condolences goes out to you Byrd family.

I will always have very fond memories of "Gene" I worked with Gene almost 10 years at Walmart. I do not get the Shelbyville News anymore; and I don't check the paper on-line like I should. I did not know of his passing until now.
