Music by The Piano Brothers

Anna Lou Crampton, 84, a life long Shelby Country resident, passed away peacefully on December 2. 2018.

She was born May 18, 1934 in Shelbyville. Her family moved to a farm in Morristown but she later moved back to Shelbyville.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Keith Crampton (1929-1943), her father Edgar S. Crampton (1889-1969) and her mother Dorothy (nee Cross) Crampton (1903-1992).

A 1952 graduate of Shelbyville High School, she attended DePauw University.

She enjoyed Broadway, musicals and classic movies but her first love was singing. She competed in voice competitions and, as a high school senior, took first place singing “Un Bel Di Vedremo,” the aria from the opera “Madame Butterfly” at a statewide music competition for high school students. She once sang with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in a chorus.

She was an executive administrative assistant in Indianapolis for many years. She often said it was her job to make the bosses look good. She began her career at Shoppers Charge, which evolved into AFNB, then Bank One and finally, Chase.

She was known for her taste in clothing and jewelry and claimed to have a different set of jewelry for each outfit.  She was also known for her outgoing personality and strong opinions. She loved social gatherings, her Buicks, and in her earlier years, martinis with extra olives.  Those who heard her laugh found it unforgettable.

Thank you to the staff of the Heritage House of Shelbyville who took such great care of Anna Lou during her illness.

Funeral Directors Greg, Sheila and Stuart Parks are honored to serve the Crampton family.
