After retirement from the work force in 1986, Dale met and married Helen Ogden. Their marriage of 28 years was a source of love and nurturing for each other and their families.

In addition to loving and providing for his family, Dale donated his time and support as a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society; Dale supported the Fraternal Order of Eagles #766 serving as auditor for several terms; Shelby County Drug Free Coalition; St. Joe Social Club, Knights of Columbus Scared Heart Council #822, Shelby County Historical Society; and served as an usher and commentator at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
